Praline Crackers? 1 package club crackers (1/3 of a 16 ounce box) 3/4 cup of butter 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup chopped pecans Separate each cracker into four sections. Arrange in a 10 by 15 jellyroll pan with edges touching.. Melt butter in a saucepan; stir in sugar and pecans Bring to a boil; cook 3 minutes, stirring frequently. Spread mixture evently over crackers. Bake at 300 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove from pan, and let cool on wax paper. Yield: 31/2 dozen. The Hurricane started out as a category 2 but then was downgraded to a category 1 Hurricane but once the storm hit land it became a tropical storm. Irene brought heavy rain and high winds knocking power out all over the area and damage to property. Many trees were also brought down due to the high winds and kept the members very busy all day Sunday. The firehouse was fully staffed for 24 hours. The crews were then called out starting at 4:30 am and not ending till 5:30 pm that evening. Chief 39 went on scene with smoke from the roof and heavy smoke conditions inside, He then upgraded to a 4th alarm commercial fire bringing units from Dauphin and Lebanon counties to assist. Crews arrived on scene and went to division 4 and found that a large box of potato chips had caught fire. The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system and units assisted with overhaul and water damage on the lower floors. Crews were out for roughly 4 hours, all companies that responded on this major incident worked extremely well together! A great job by the staff at the Hollywood Casino for getting the building evacuated! It’s no longer the “Blue Barn”! The past few months the Linglestown Firehouse also known by the members as the “Blue Barn” has been undergoing major renovations! We have changed the firehouse color to a dark red color and added lighting to the front row bays outside, also new installation inside the bay, new windows and also brand new bay doors! Keep an eye out for the Open House we will be hosting October 15! To break in our new Firehouse! We will be having a ribbon cutting and a lot of other great and fun things going on!! George, Jr. Park in Paxtonia and had participated in National Night Out. This is an event that not only Lower Paxton Township, but the whole nation can partake in and gain knowledge from and have fun too. For the first time for this type of event, Colonial Park and Linglestown performed a vehicle extrication demo for the public. The public had the first operation of what we do during a vehicle extrication narrated by Captain 35, S. Harp. Following the narration crews did the demo in full speed and took the roof, doors, and lifted/rolled the dash. Both departments worked extremely well together. The Air responded with 2, seconds after dispatch. DCEMA advised Chief 38 they had multiple calls, and Chief 38 put the 1st alarm out adding the Tanker to the box. The Air was the first arriving fire apparatus and staged behind Ambulance 9-2 so apparatus with fire suppression capabilities could access the scene from the east side of Fishing Creek Valley Road. The Air filled approximately 20 cylinders and was on scene for about 2 hours before being released by command 38. The Tanker arrived behind Engine 36-3 and directly supplied them until the full 2,500 gallons of water was used. The Tanker used 1 full tank of water and was released by command after filling up at Central Dauphin High School. The fire could be seen as crews left Station 35. First units on scene found a large barn well involved with fire. Tanker arrived and set up at the end of the driveway to relay water back to Engine 39 and Engine 75. Tanker 35 was supplied by multiple other Tankers during the operation. Engine 35-1 assisted with expression and overhaul of the structure. The Engine was the apparatus chosen to attend by the crew and arrived to set up a table with childrens coloring books, various plastic badges, plastic helmets, and balloons. Everyone got to experience and see the tools we use when we do our job and also had the chance to try on what we wear. Also in attendance was the Lower Paxton Police Department to teach children and adults the importance of bicycle safety and also to show proper car seat installations. During the event, the crew was treated with lunch and had a great time.
