Odor Of Smoke Inside

August 16, 2007

This evening just as members were gathering for weekly training, County dispatched for an odor of smoke in a structure. Truck 35 and Engine 35 responded immediately after dispatch with 11 members, followed by Air 35 with 2. Truck 35 arrived with nothing showing from the exterior and investigated. Truck 35 crew threw ground ladders and investigated the first floor to find smoke in the apartment but no source visible. Truck 35 crew forced the door to the second floor to find heavy smoke in the entry-way. Crews entered and found the cause to be unattended cooking in the kitchen. Crews opened windows and performed positive pressure ventilation. Company 35 returned back to the station after about 30 minutes. When crews returned Engine 35 and Rescue 35 headed to HACC and trained on lifting bags.
